Dick Bengtsson (1936–1989) is one of the most unique figures in Swedish art history – a unique voice whose work pushes boundaries and leaves a lasting impact on all who encounter it.
In the spring and summer of 2025, Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum will showcase Dick Bengtsson's 1960s and 1970s works in the exhibition The Unseen. It has been over 20 years since a major exhibition of his work where presented, and now a new generation of visitors will have the opportunity to experience his distinctive artistic vision.
Bengtsson frequently employed provocative symbols, such as the swastika, imbuing his work with a political and challenging edge. His aim was not to express any Nazi sympathies, but to question the power of such symbols and the ways we interpret them. His art invites viewers to look beyond the surface, confront uncomfortable truths, and to question what we take for granted.
